'Most Prolific Rapist’ In British Legal History Gets Life For Sexually Assaulting 48 Men
"[Reynhard] Sinaga’s modus operandi was constant throughout - to approach intoxicated young men in central Manchester and lure them back to his strategically located flat,” prosecutors stated.
A man deemed the "most prolific rapist" in British legal history has been sentenced to life behind bars for preying on men in a nightclub area, drugging and raping them.
Reynhard Sinaga, 36, has been convicted of raping 48 men from 2015 to 2017, according to the Crown Prosecution Services. The Indonesian national was found guilty of 136 counts of rape, eight counts of attempted rape and 14 counts of sexual assault over the course of four separate trials.
In all, he’s been convicted of 159 offenses which include “136 unprotected anal rapes he filmed on two mobile phones,” according to the Crown.
Sinaga drugged his victims, whom he often met around Manchester clubs, with GHB before bringing them to his apartment to assault them.
“Sinaga’s modus operandi was constant throughout - to approach intoxicated young men in central Manchester and lure them back to his strategically located flat,” the Crown states, adding that he lived near a popular nightclub area.
“There Sinaga spiked defenceless victims with sedatives, probably a GHB-laced shot, to render them unconscious - then filmed himself raping them, in many cases repeatedly for hours on end,” they state.
He was finally caught after one of his victims, an 18-year-old who regained consciousness during an attack in 2017, was able to fight Sinaga off and call the police. Other victims had no memory of what happened.
The teen victim not only got away, but he swiped Sinaga’s cellphone which led investigators to discover “3.29 terabytes of extremely graphic material - equivalent to 250 DVDs or 300,000 photos - depicting sexual assaults lasting, in one case, for eight hours," according to the Crown.
Sinaga’s defense during all his trials? The victims were playing dead.
“He claimed all the mainly heterosexual victims were enjoying acting out his ‘sexual fantasy’ of playing dead during intercourse, but this defence was rejected by four trial juries at Manchester Crown Court,” the Crown noted.
Sinaga was jailed for life on Monday for his victimization spree.
While he has been convicted of crimes that span just two years, investigators believe he may have preyed on people for a much longer duration.
"We suspect he's offended over a period of 10 years," Assistant Chief Constable Mabbs Hussain said, according to the press release. "The information and evidence we are going from is largely from trophies that he's collected from the victims of his crimes."
Sinaga moved to the UK in 2007.
More alleged victims have also come forward following Sinaga’s conviction, the BBC reports. While convicted of attacking 48 men, investigators believe a more accurate count could be closer to 200, the Guardian reports.
The Crown Prosecution Service calls Sinaga “the most prolific rapist ever tried in a British court,” according to a Monday press release which announced the conviction. They also call him “the worst known sex offender in the country’s history.”
