Pregnant Woman Allegedly ID’s Unborn Baby's Father As Her Killer With Her Dying Breath
Remy Lee, 31, was eight months pregnant when she was fatally shot last month in New Jersey. Her unborn child, who was delivered by doctors, survived the shooting, and is in stable condition.
A pregnant woman, who was shot multiple times outside a New Jersey apartment complex, identified her alleged shooter as her baby’s father in her dying breaths, investigators said.
Police were dispatched to an apartment in north Paterson, New Jersey at around 1:37 p.m. on Oct. 29 after receiving reports of a shooting.
Remy Lee, 31, who suffered several gunshots, allegedly told emergency responders that Donqua Thomas, the father of her child, pulled the trigger.
"It was my baby father,” Remy said, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Northjersey.com.
When asked who shot her, Lee identified her alleged shooter as “Quay,” a nickname Thomas goes by, the outlet reported. The pair are estranged. Lee’s mother reportedly also identified Thomas as the suspected triggerman in the shooting’s aftermath.
“That’s my daughter’s baby father,” she said, witnesses stated, according to Northjersey.com.
Neighbors reported hearing a trio of rapid gunshots shortly before 2 p.m., according to WPIX.
Lee, who was eight months pregnant, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where medical staff successfully delivered her infant. The New Jersey mother, however, died shortly afterwards.
“While at the hospital, R.L. delivered her child, however she succumbed to her wounds and was pronounced deceased shortly after delivering her child,” Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. “The baby is healthy and currently admitted in stable condition.”
Thomas, 30, turned himself in to police on Nov. 1.
He allegedly staked out Lee’ apartment, lingering in a red Dodge Dart for roughly 90 minutes before the expectant mother returned home from a doctor’s appointment on the day of the shooting, police said, WNBC reported. After Lee parked her car beside his vehicle, Thomas emerged, allegedly opened fire, and then sped out of the parking lot.
Officials declined to release further information.
“This investigation is active and ongoing,” prosecutors said.
A spokesperson for Paterson Police Department didn’t immediately return Oxygen.com’s request for comment.
Lee’s due date was Nov. 17, according to an online gift registry. She was a mother to two other children, according to WPIX.
Thomas was also slapped with a pair of gun charges following the alleged shooting, jail records show. He was arraigned and is currently being held without bail at a Passaic County jailhouse. His next scheduled court appearance is on Nov. 6. It’s unclear if Thomas has retained legal representation.
Thomas faces a maximum of life behind bars if convicted..
