Police Identify Boy Found In Suitcase In Indiana Woods; Issue Arrest Warrant For Mother, Who Allegedly Believed Her Son Was Possessed By Demon
In April, a mushroom hunter found a 5-year-old boy, identified by authorities as Cairo Ammar Jordan, stuffed into a distinctive Las Vegas-themed hard-shell suitcase.
Six months after a local mushroom hunter discovered a small boy’s body shoved into a suitcase in a wooded area of Indiana, authorities have positively identified the child and identified two suspects in the case, including the boy’s mother.
The Indiana State Police announced Wednesday that the remains had been identified as five-year-old Cairo Ammar Jordan from Atlanta, Georgia. The announcement came just two days after Jordan would have celebrated his sixth birthday.
Sgt. Carey Huls called it a “bittersweet day” at a Wednesday press conference in which they announced the latest developments, according to CBS News.
“Bitter, because no matter what progress is made and what happens in this case, we’re still dealing with the tragic death of a precious young child. And unfortunately, we can’t change that,” he said. “But the wheels of justice do turn, and we do make progress and so we have information today regarding that case.”

On Oct. 14, after months of investigation, authorities issued two felony arrest warrants in connection with Jordan’s death for the boy’s mother Dejuane Ludie Anderson, 37, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dawn Elaine Coleman, 40, for neglect of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice.
Although police have not said how the two women are connected, they did say they were “not physically related to each other,” WLWT reports.
Coleman was taken into custody a few days later on Oct. 19 in San Francisco.
Anderson — who was also later issued an additional arrest warrant for murder in the case — is still at large. Her last known location was in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, California; however, authorities said she has also recently traveled to San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Houston, Texas.
The investigation began in April when an Indiana mushroom hunter stumbled on a distinct Las-Vegas themed suitcase in a “heavily wooded” area near a roadway in eastern Washington County, according to an earlier statement from police.
After opening the suitcase and finding the body of a black male child, the hunter called 911, according to WBIW.
An autopsy would later determine that the boy died from an electrolyte imbalance likely caused by “viral gastroenteritis,” police said. There were no signs of traumatic injury.
According to a probable cause affidavit in the case, obtained by the news outlet, police were able to identify Coleman and Anderson as suspects in the case after fingerprints found on two trash bags used to wrap the body were linked to the women.
Investigators also discovered a disturbing set of social media messages from Anderson’s accounts between December 2021 and April 2022 in which she described her son as being possessed by a “demon who needed to be killed or exorcised,” according to the court records.
In the months leading up to her son's disappearance, Anderson allegedly wrote bizarre Facebook and Twitter posts about “protection spells,” “reversal spells” hexes, curses, “avatars” and a “powerful demonic force."
In one, posted on April 8, Anderson allegedly wrote, “Just because the avatar is of what we call a child does not mean that it is actually a child…there are beings that are here that are not supposed to be here that pick avatars to hide behind to play roles to steal energy and to ruin lives.”
Several days later, on April 12, she reached out on Twitter to an Indianapolis priest to say she had just survived an attack from her 5-year-old child, according to the court records.
“I have been able to weaken his powers through our blood,” she wrote. “I have his real name and he is 100 years old. Need assistance.”
Using cell phone data, investigators were able to put Coleman and Anderson in Washington County — where the body would be found just two days later — on April 14.
On April 15, Anderson allegedly posted another rambling message on Facebook.
“This is a whole demon in a child body,” she wrote, according to the affidavit. “Why you think she need a cigarette?!! Losing energy huh! 64 years old in a child body. Was full of gifts and magickal (sic) rites stronger than many of you because your frequency not high enough. Start asking spirit to reveal these things to you hiding behind a body.”
A RiverLink camera captured Anderson’s car driving away Jeffersonville, Indiana toward Louisville, Kentucky the next day.
The month before her son’s body was discovered in the woods, Anderson had repeatedly scuffled with law enforcement. She was arrested in Louisville on a robbery charge on March, but never appeared for her preliminary hearing in the case.
She was also taken into custody in South Carolina for leading police on a chase reaching 92 miles per hour, according to WLWT.
Police are now asking for the public’s help to find Anderson, who has been described as a black female, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds. She had short dark brown hair in her last known photo, but police said she’s also been known to wear wigs and extensions.
"No matter where you live, we can use help,” Huls said. “Help us locate her for Cairo.”
Oxygen.com reached out to the Indiana State Police but did not receive an immediate response.
