Police Say Missing Woman Was Killed By Ex, Who Then Died In Police Confrontation
Police killed Marshall Curtis Jones as they attempted to arrest him for the murder of his ex Alexis Gabe, whose body has yet to be found.
Investigators say that a missing California woman was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, who was killed in a police confrontation in Washington this week.
Marshall Curtis Jones, 27, was killed on Wednesday “by members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force as they attempted to arrest him in Washington,” the Oakley Police Department announced during a Thursday press conference.
An arrest warrant had been issued earlier that day, charging Jones with the murder of his former girlfriend Alexis Gabe, 24.
Gabe, who lived Oakley, California, has been missing since January. Jones was "the last person she saw before her disappearance,” police say; he had been living in nearby Antioch, California.
"Due to the information that has been yielded during our long and intensive investigation, I must announce at this point, that we believe Alexis Gabe is the victim of a homicide," Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard announced on Thursday.
The department believes that Gabe was killed around the time she went missing. Her body has yet to be found.
The Seattle Police Department, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service were attempting to arrest Jones in Kent, Washington when he allegedly charged them with a knife, according to the investigators.
They claim in turn that the the Marshals "discharged their service weapons.”
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“We didn't want him dead,” Gabe's father, Gwyn Gabe, told reporters on Thursday, ABC 7 News reports. “We wanted him arrested to pay for his sins.”
He called Jones his daughter's “first love.”
“He became part of our family,” he said. “We had no idea he was capable of doing something like this to her.”
He vowed to continue to search for Gabe until she is found.
A $100,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information that could lead to the discovery of Gabe's body.
