Keith Mondello led a mob of mostly-white youths wielding baseball bats that attacked and killed Black teen Yusuf Hawkins, all over Mondello's issues with an ex-girlfriend.
"I don't know who shot Yusuf Hawkins, but it wasn't my friends and it wasn't me," Joseph Fama says in the HBO documentary, "Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn."
During the trial for Yusuf Hawkins' murder, the defense attempted to argue Gina Feliciano, an ex-girlfriend of one of the accused killers, was actually to blame for his death.
"I was a Black kid in a white neighborhood and I wanted to be a white kid living in a white neighborhood," Russell Gibbons said in HBO's "Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn."
