Kelsey Berreth
Kelsey Berreth, a 29-year-old Colorado mother and flight instructor, was last seen alive on Thanksgiving 2018 at a grocery store shopping with her 1-year-old daughter. Her fiancé, Patrick Frazee, was charged with, and later convicted of, her murder.
Kelsey Berreth Goes Missing
Berreth’s family reported her missing 10 days later, after Berreth failed to answer any texts or calls. However, three days after she was last seen, a co-worker had received a text message stating that she would be taking the rest of the week off. Based on this final message, Berreth’s phone was tracked to Gooding, Idaho, a town that was approximately 700 miles away from her home in Colorado.
Patrick Frazee’s Arrest and the Idaho Nurse Connection
Fiancé Patrick Frazee was arrested for first-degree murder a month later after multiple searches of Berreth’s home, in which police were able to find enough “suspicious” items to take him into custody. More information soon came to light: Frazee was allegedly having an affair with Idaho nurse Krystal Lee Kenney, who told Colorado police that Frazee pressured her into killing Berreth. Kenney also admitted to helping Frazee clean the bloody crime scene and disposing of Berreth’s phone in Idaho at Frazee’s request. She has pleaded guilty to evidence-tampering and testified against Frazee.
Frazee was charged with two counts of murder and three counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Police believe he used a baseball bat to end Berreth’s life.
Presumed dead by the Woodland Park police chief, Berreth’s body has yet to be found and there have been no additional arrests.
Frazee's Conviction and Sentencing
On Nov. 18, 2019, Frazee was convicted of Berreth’s murder by a Colorado jury. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was also given an additional 156 years on several of the eight charges he was convicted of, which included first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder and one count of tampering with a body. On Jan. 6, 2020, Frazee’s attorneys filed a motion to appeal his conviction.
Additionally, on Jan. 28, 2020, Kenney was sentenced to three years in prison for tampering with evidence from the crime scene. She will face a year of parole upon release.
