Prosecutors say Greg and Travis McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan only chased Ahmaud Arbery because "he was a Black man running down their street," while the defense blamed Arbery for the events leading to his death.
The man accused of shooting an unarmed jogger three times testified that he was scared when, armed with a shotgun, he pursued Ahmad Arbery in his truck with his father and the help of a neighbor.
The Rev. Al Sharpton later described the remarks made by defense attorney Kevin Gough as "arrogant insensitivity" and "insulting to the family of the victim."
Greg McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and neighbor William "Roddie" Bryan Jr., are on trial for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, who was chased down and fatally shot in Brunswick, Georgia in February 2020.
“This ain’t no shuffler,” Greg McMichael said shortly after the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, according to a transcript read in court. “This guy’s an a—hole. He was hooked up when he came around that street.”
