Brian Walshe Lived With ‘Ever-Present’ Childhood Trauma, Missing Mass. Mom Ana Walshe Said In 2021
"Brian has been deeply affected by his childhood and relationship with his parents," Ana Walshe wrote in a letter to a federal judge in support of her husband, Brian Walshe, in September 2021.
The husband of missing Massachusetts mother Ana Walshe was “taught to lie '' and was “told he was a loser” as a child, the 39-year-old realtor said in court documents filed more than a year ago.
Brian Walshe, who’s been charged in relation to his wife’s disappearance, reportedly underwent severe childhood trauma that was “ever-present” in his life, his wife, Ana Walshe, wrote in a September 2021 letter to a federal judge.
Ana Walshe wrote the letter in support of her embattled husband after he entered a guilty plea on a series of fraud-related charges in relation to two fake Andy Warhol paintings from 1978 for $80,000, which he sold to a California art dealer.
At the time of Ana Walshe’s disappearance on Jan. 1, Brian Walshe had been living on house arrest and was under monitoring as he awaited sentencing.
"When I met Brian, I witnessed his kindness and generosity on many occasions, however, I also saw the level of suffering in his life,” Ana Walshe wrote in the 2021 letter, Fox News reported. “He was afraid of relationships and for years did not allow anyone to get close to him, including me. He was clearly in doubt that he could be loved for who he truly was. Brian has been deeply affected by his childhood and relationship with his parents.”
The missing Massachusetts realtor also told the court that his parents ruthlessly chiseled away at Brian Walshe’s self-esteem with constant and cruel verbal abuse. “A deep feeling of shame governed his life," she said of the impact the treatment had on him.
"He was taught to lie and hide,” Ana Walshe described. “He was told that he was a loser, that his parents should have not had him, that he had no chances of making anything of himself in life, and that he was a lost cause. This trauma has been ever-present in Brian's life, brought deep sadness for years and was the determining factor of how he showed up for himself and others in the past."
Brian Walshe told police Ana Walshe vanished after reportedly taking a rideshare to Boston’s Logan airport around 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, hours after ringing in the new year with her husband and friends at their Cohasset, Massachusetts home. He said that she was going to take a flight to Washington, D.C. where she was employed as a real estate executive, for a work-related emergency. The Massachusetts mother, however, never took a rideshare or boarded a flight, nor did she board a separate pre-booked flight from Boston to Washington D.C. on Jan. 3, ABC Boston affiliate WCBV reported.
Her employers at Tishman Speyer reported her missing to police on Jan. 4.
Brian Walshe has since been arrested on one charge of misleading investigators, who said that he wasn't truthful when discussing his whereabouts around the time his wife vanished. He allegedly told detectives he was sleeping at the time of his wife’s disappearance. He's pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Law enforcement later found a damaged knife and blood at the couple’s home after executing a search warrant. Prosecutors say Brian Walshe also purchased cleaning supplies, including mops and a tape, from Home Depot around the time Ana Walshe disappeared.
As of Friday afternoon, Ana Walshe is still considered missing. Brian Walshe hasn’t been criminally charged in direct connection to his his wife’s disappearance.
Authorities, however, now say Brian Walshe has an alleged documented history of domestic abuse.
On Thursday, police in Washington, D.C. released an incident report in which Brian Walshe is accused of threatening to kill Ana Walshe and her friend in August 2014.
"[Ana Walshe] reports that on listed date and time [Brian Walshe] made a statement over the telephone that he was going to kill [Ana Walshe] and her friend,” the police report stated, per Fox News.
Charges, however, were never filed. Ana Walshe "refused to cooperate in the prosecution," the report also alleged. The police report was filed a year before the couple married.
"The case was closed because we were unable to proceed due to the victim’s cooperation," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia told Fox News.
Brian Walshe’s attorney, Tracey Miner, has stated he’s been “incredibly cooperative” with investigators. Her office declined to comment on the allegations this week.
Amid Ana Walshe’s disappearance and her husband’s arrest, the couple’s children have been relocated to state protective custody. No other information has been released by officials regarding the active case.
