Man With Sharpened Teeth Allegedly Threatened To Bite Kidnapping Victim's Throat If She Didn't Obey
The Genesee Sheriff's Office alleges that Michael Barajas held a 20-year-old pregnant woman hostage for three weeks, threatened to kill her and allowed others to rape her repeatedly.
A Michigan man is accused of holding a 20-year-old pregnant woman hostage for three weeks, sex trafficking her and threatening to bite her throat with his sharpened teeth if she didn’t do what he said, according to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Barajas, 36, is facing several charges, including human trafficking, kidnapping and sexual assault. Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson detailed the horrific accusations against him in a video posted on Facebook on Wednesday, calling Barajas a “monster.”
Swanson pointed out the dilapidated home where it allegedly happened in the video, showing missing ceiling tiles, dirty mattresses on the floor and garbage everywhere. He also showed the locks on the door where the victim was allegedly held, as well as extra screws put on the windows that were likely to prevent her escape.
“I’m telling you the details of this case because I want to make it very clear,” Swanson said in the video. “These are the kinds of things that happen in Genesee County, they happen in Flint, they happen in Michigan, they happen around the country.”
Swanson said the 20-year-old woman's ordeal began after was kicked out her home on Nov. 20, and was walking down a street.
“A vehicle pulls up, sees the vulnerability, offers a shower, food, warmth, and she accepts,” Swanson said. “I want you to be aware that grooming started this tragedy. It started with identifying somebody who is vulnerable, it started by identifying what the need was, they fill the need, and then that’s when they trap them in.”
Swanson said the victim was locked in a room, and tied to the bed with a rope. The sheriff accused Barajas of then letting people come over and rape the victim as she was tied down.
“This whole scenario was so bizarre, because Barajas told her if she didn’t do everything that he told her to do, he would bite her neck and rip out her throat,” Swanson said. “I know this is crude, I know it’s disturbing.”
“He made this victim, this adult victim, write a letter, write a note, and describe him as ‘daddy,’” Swanson added. “That is not a relationship. That is a complete violation of innocence.”
Swason detailed how the woman allegedly tried to escape twice and got out the door, but said Barajas re-captured her and brought back to the home. She was eventually taken to a hospital for a medical emergency and doctors notified the sheriff’s office of a crime. That's when the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team began investigating; they ultimately arrested Barajas.
Barajas is in jail on a $250,000 bond. The sheriff’s office is currently doing forensic investigations on the home.
The sheriff's office is still looking for the other men who allegedly raped the victim while she was kidnapped. People with any information in the case are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 810-257-3422.
