‘She Didn't See This Coming’: Wife Of Dad Who Murdered Kids In Mexico Had 'No Clue' He Was QAnon Adherent
Mathew Taylor Coleman murdered his 2-year-old son Kaleo and 10-month-old daughter, Roxy, on a Mexican ranch earlier this month.
A California mother whose husband allegedly killed her two young children with a speargun in Mexico after becoming entangled in the QAnon mass delusion is trying to wrap her mind around the tragic killings of her kids a family friend reportedly said.
Mathew Taylor Coleman murdered his 2-year-old son Kaleo and 10-month-old daughter, Roxy, on a Mexican ranch earlier this month, leaving Abby Coleman, his wife, both devastated and confused, according to reports.
"She's starting to question everything she ever knew about her husband," the family friend told People. "She didn't see this coming. No one did. But for her, she's starting to question everything she ever knew about her husband. It's devastating."
According to investigators, Coleman, a surf instructor enamored with QAnon and other conspiracy theories, drove his son and daughter across the southern border on Aug. 7 and used a spearfishing gun to kill them. Coleman carried out the murders after becoming convinced his wife had passed serpent DNA onto his kids, the FBI’s criminal complaint alleged.
"M. Coleman stated that he believed his children were going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them," the complaint stated. "[He was] enlightened by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories and was receiving visions and signs revealing that his wife, A.C., possessed serpent DNA and had passed it on to his children.”
Coleman is accused of later abandoning his children’s bodies in the desert. He was arrested after attempting to cross back into the United States. The speargun and a “blood-stained wooden stake” were recovered by authorities, according to The San Francisco Gate.
On Aug. 7, Abby Coleman was stunned to learn the family van, her husband, and her children were missing from the family’s property. she apparently never thought her kids were in danger—and assumed they would return to the couple’s home at some point.
"This was news to everyone, including Abby," the longtime friend said. "If she had any idea that he was believing all this, she would've helped him get help. But she didn't know. And now the worst has happened."
Prior to the double murder, Abby Coleman told her friend that her marriage to Coleman was fine — and that she hadn’t observed any discernible change in his behavior. She reportedly told the family source she's "destroyed inside" and suspects Coleman "snapped."
"Abby had no clue whatsoever," the family friend told the magazine. "So now she's wondering what she could have done to stop it. Those questions are going to haunt her."
Coleman has been charged with foreign murder. He’s currently being held in a federal detention center and is being psychologically evaluated. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Sept. 9, according to court records.
Coleman’s public defender, Elena Sadowsky, declined to comment on the case when contacted by Oxygen.com last week.
