Cops Eye Possible TikTok Challenge After Student Is Accused Of ‘Viciously’ Attacking Teacher In Wheelchair
Larrianna Jackson, an adult student at Covington High School, is accused of attacking her 64-year-old teacher on Wednesday after the dismissal bell rang.
A Louisiana high school student has been accused of violently assaulting a teacher in her wheelchair, which resulted in her needing treatment at a hospital this week.
Larrianna Jackson, an 18-year-old student at Covington High School, is accused of “viciously” attacking her 64-year-old teacher on Wednesday while at the school after the dismissal bell rang, a press release from the Covington Police Department stated.
Responding officers say they were provided a video that captured the incident.
“In the video, you can see the schoolteacher sitting at her desk where she appears to be talking to Larrianna Jackson,” police said. “After a moment, Jackson punches the teacher, causing the teacher to fall to the ground. As the teacher fell to the ground, Jackson continues to violently closed fist punch the teacher. The video then turns off at this point.”
The footage, obtained by WVUE in New Orleans, allegedly shows Jackson attacking the woman in her wheelchair repeatedly before throwing her to the ground. The teacher sought medical attention at a local hospital for the injuries she sustained during the attack, police stated.
Police claimed that the incident may have been inspired by a TikTok challenge.
“Evidently users on the app have deemed it to be a challenge to damage school property and attack teachers,” their press release alleged.
TikTok denied that such a challenge exists in a tweet Wednesday.
“The rumored 'slap a teacher' dare is an insult to educators everywhere,” the company wrote. “And while this is not a trend on TikTok, if at any point it shows up, content will be removed.”
No visible challenge or trend on TikTok for any sort of school attack has been found.
Jackson has been charged with battery of school teacher, which is a felony charge. It is not clear if she has a lawyer. Police say the matter is still under investigation and that more arrests may be forthcoming.
