Florida Teacher Accused Of Sexual Activity With Former Student She Had A 'Crush' On
Kristen O'Brien had allegedly “started to push to become close friends” with the victim's family in an effort to spend more time with him as the relationship between the pair grew.
A Florida former teacher has been accused of having inappropriate sexual activity with a student she allegedly admitted to having a “crush” on.
Kristen O’Brien, 31, is now facing charges of lewd and lascivious battery and committing a sexual act on a child older than 12 but younger than 16 years old after authorities said she engaged in sexual activity with her former student while sitting on a couch at his home, according to a Daytona Beach Police Department incident report obtained by Oxygen.com.
Police were called to the family’s home on Sept. 27 after the victim’s mother had been looking through her son’s phone and discovered a suspicious thread of messages on Instagram.
The mother began to exchange messages with O’Brien pretending to be her son and tried to mimic their previous communication by calling O’Brien “slut,” according to the report.
O’Brien allegedly responded that she wanted to come over to visit the victim, but then stopped responding.
O’Brien had been the victim’s teacher at Brethren Christ Academy about two years earlier and had “started to push to become close friends” with the family in October 2019 by initially hanging out weekly and then every few days with the family.
“(The victim’s mother) stated she felt odd by (O’Brien’s) overt attempts to be close with the family,” the report said.
After O’Brien allegedly stopped responding to the messages, the victim’s mother began texting her from her own phone saying that she wanted to talk with O’Brien.
Eventually, the pair met in the parking lot of a local Steak and Shake at which point O’Brien allegedly admitted to having an “inappropriate emotional relationship” with the victim and having a “crush” on him, according to the report.
O’Brien allegedly said that after realizing her feelings she gave the victim three options: They could pretend O’Brien had never told the victim about her crush, they could do the right thing and stop talking to each other, or they could “do whatever they wanted and not worry about what is right.”
She also allegedly admitted to the victim’s mom that the “crush” turned physical on September 6 when O’Brien and the victim were laying on a couch at his home covered by a blanket. The victim allegedly digitally penetrated O’Brien during the encounter, according to the report.
O’Brien also used to tutor the victim’s younger brother and would take him on trips to McDonald’s to try to make the victim “jealous,” the report said.
O’Brien quit her job at Brethren Christ Academy before her arrest, police said.
She posted a $50,000 bail and has been released from jail, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
