'Unfortunate, Sorrowful News': K-Pop Star Yohan Dead At 28, But Cause Of Death Is Unknown
The record label for Yohan's group, TST, confirmed the news, saying the singer's family was in "deep mourning."
Korean pop star Yohan, a member of the popular boyband TST, is dead at 28 years old, the musician's label announced.
Yohan, whose legal name is Kim Jeong-hwan, died on Tuesday, according to The Guardian newspaper.
A cause of death has not been revealed.
“We are sad to relay the most unfortunate, sorrowful news. On June 16, TST member Yohan left this world. The late Yohan’s family is currently in deep mourning," TST's label KJ Entertainment said in a statement provided to the Guardian.
Yohan's last post to Instagram was on May 31 and shows the singer standing on a beach.
South Korean media has reported that a wake for the singer will be held at Seoul’s Severance Hospital, and Yohan’s funeral will take place on Friday, in Yongin, music outlet NME reported.
Yohan made his debut with boyband NOM in 2015. After the group disbanded, he joined TST — formerly known as Top Secret — in 2017, according to Yahoo Entertainment. He celebrated his 28th birthday in April.
TST is best known for their songs "Love Story, Paradise" and "Wake Up" and the band released their most recent single "Countdown" in January.
A number of South Korean pop stars have died at young ages in recent years and the pop industry puts harsh pressure on its often very young stars, Yahoo noted.
Last December, Cha In Ha — a member of the group Surprise U — died at 27 and the cause of death was kept private, the New York Daily News reported. Just a month before that 28-year-old Goo Hara and 25-year-old Sulli — members of K-pop girl group Kara — died by suicide after suffering online harassment.
