Cars In Gun Battle Crash Into 'Justified: City Primeval' Set's Barricade
"Justified: City Primeval" cast and crew members reportedly dove for cover when two cars crashed through the perimeter of the set early Thursday morning amid a violent shooting.
Production was halted on the set of FX’s “Justified: City Primeval” last week after two cars in a gun battle broke through barricades on the set.
No one from the cast or crew was injured in the shooting, although production was halted for several days, according to Deadline.
It is expected to resume Monday.
Chicago Police said in a statement to Oxygen.com that the shooting took place in the 1400 block of S. Sacramento on Thursday morning around 12:49 a.m.
A 19-year-old female sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle was shot by someone traveling in a white Dodge Charger. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital where she was listed in good condition. Detectives are still trying to find the shooter, police said.
The cast and crew of the limited “Justified” revival series, who had been on the set when the cars broke through the perimeter, reportedly hit the ground and took cover during the melee. Also on the set at the time was series star Timothy Olyphant, who will reprise his role in the series as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.
“The Chicago Police Department is committed to ensuring members of the city's vibrant film and television community are able to do their jobs safely,” police said of the incident. “We work in close coordination with the Chicago Film Office, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications to ensure production crews have the resources necessary to feel safe and secure while filming in the city's neighborhoods.”
It wasn’t the only violence to recently erupt near a television film set. On Tuesday, a crew member of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” was shot to death near the NBC show’s New York City set.
New York City Police arrived at 229 North Henry Street to find 31-year-old Johnny Pizarro sitting in a car with “multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck,” according to a statement from police to Oxygen.com.
Pizarro, identified by PEOPLE as a father of six, was unconscious and unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Pizzarro had been working as parking enforcement for the show at the time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Police have yet to make any arrests in that case and said the investigation is “ongoing.”
“Justified: City Primeval” is an eight-episode limited series revival of FX’s earlier hit “Justified,” which ran from 2010 to 2015, according to Deadline. It picks up after Givens left Kentucky for a new home in Miami. After traveling to Detroit, Givens crosses paths with a sociopathic villain, Clement Mansell, also known as The Oklahoma Wildman, Variety reports.
The series also stars Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Marin Ireland, and Olyphant’s own daughter Vivian Olyphant, who portrays Given’s daughter in the series.
