83-Year-Old Killer, Who Already Served More Than 50 Years For Killing Two Women, Arrested Again
Harvey Marcelin, an 83-year-old transgender woman, is facing charges of concealment of a corpse after sources say she was spotted on surveillance footage disposing of the body of Susan Leyden.
An 83-year-old killer—who has spent time behind bars for killing two other women—has been arrested after a female torso was discovered in a Brooklyn shopping cart last week.
Harvey Marcelin, who identifies as a transgender female, is now facing charges of concealment of a corpse in the death of 68-year-old Susan Leyden, according to a statement to Oxygen.com from the New York Police Department.
Police responded to a 911 call on Thursday, March 3 at approximately 1:46 a.m. after a passerby had discovered possible body parts at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.
After they arrived at the scene, officers discovered a female torso inside a “large bag” in a shopping cart, police said. The remains were later identified as belonging to Leyden.
Marcelin was arrested on Friday after she was allegedly captured on surveillance video leaving the body, sources told The New York Post.
A “human head” was also found in Marcelin’s home, along with electric saws, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the news outlet.
Additional charges against Marcelin are still possible.
“This investigation remains active and ongoing,” a NYPD spokesperson told Oxygen.com.
Leyden was last seen alive on surveillance footage going into Marcelin’s apartment on Feb. 27, according to the criminal complaint. She had been wheeling “a multi-colored back with a flower decal.”
Leyden was never seen leaving the building; however, Marcelin was captured on surveillance footage several days later wheeling the same bag.
Marcelin has already served more than 50 years behind bars for killing two other women, decades apart.
She was convicted in 1963 in the death of her live-in girlfriend, Jacqueline Bonds. Bonds was shot three times inside the couple’s apartment, according to the The New York Post.
Marcelin had allegedly snapped after she discovered that Bonds planned to leave her. She was sentenced to 20 years to life, but was released on parole in May 1984, according to state prison records obtained by Oxygen.com.
Less than a year later, Marcelin was arrested again for killing another live-in girlfriend. The woman’s body had been dumped near Central Park, the news outlet reports.
Marcelin was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in 1986. Although she was sentenced to a six-to-12 years behind bars, she wasn’t released from prison until 2019 after repeatedly being denied parole.
During one parole hearing, she allegedly told the parole board she had a “problem with women.”
She is currently being held without bail at Riker’s Island.
