Harmony Montgomery's Stepmom Faces New Charge Related To Alleged Gun Theft
Harmony Montgomery's stepmom Kayla Montgomery has been charged in connection with a 2019 gun theft involving her estranged husband Adam Montgomery.
The stepmother of missing New Hampshire girl Harmony Montgomery faces new charges that are unrelated to the child's disappearance.
Kayla Montgomery, 31, has been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property related to a gun theft in Manchester in 2019, NBC Boston reports. Her estranged husband Adam Montgomery — the 30-year-old father of Harmony — was arrested earlier this month on eight charges related to the same incident.
Investigators allege that Adam stole a rifle and shotgun from a person. He faces two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, two counts of receiving stolen property, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of being an armed career criminal.
The couple was also indicted last month by a Hillsborough County grand jury in connection with Harmony’s disappearance, the Associated Press reported. The child vanished in 2019 at the age of 5.
In connection with the child’s disappearance, Kayla was cited on a felony charge of theft by deception for allegedly lying to the Health Department about Harmony being in her home from November 2019 to June 2, 2021 so that she could receive food stamp benefits. Investigators allege she claimed more than $1,500 in fraudulent benefits, WMUR reports.
Meanwhile, Adam was indicted on a felony charge of second-degree assault, for allegedly striking Harmony in the face in July 2019. He was also arrested on two charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
Harmony hasn't been seen since late 2019. She wasn't reported missing until late last year, when her mother, Crystal Sorey, did so. Adam Montgomery had been given custody of the girl while Sorey was in drug treatment in 2018, after which he allegedly cut the child off from her mother.
Both Adam and Kayla pleaded not guilty and both have claimed that Harmony was living with Sorey when she vanished, according to the Associated Press. Sorey said that she last saw Harmony during a video chat around Easter of 2019.
