Gypsy Rose Blanchard Announces She's Pregnant, Expecting First Child with Ken Urker
The media sensation convicted of her mother's 2015 homicide said, "I want to be everything my mother wasn't."
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the woman convicted of killing her mother in 2015, is expecting her first child, she recently announced to her thousands of social media followers.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the 32-year-old media sensation took to YouTube to publish a nine-minute video titled, “I’m Pregnant, My Journey So Far.” Blanchard stated that “the rumors were true” because she and her ex-fiancé, Ken Urker, are “excited” to start a family and share their pregnancy journey — now in its 11th week — on social media.
“We’re both very excited; this was not planned at all,” Blanchard happily announced. “It was completely unexpected, but we’re both very excited to take on this new journey of parenthood.”

In addition to the video, on Tuesday afternoon, Blanchard posted a collage from a photoshoot on her Instagram page, showing her and Urker in various poses with an infant-sized knitted sweater and photos of a sonogram.
The news comes less than a year after Blanchard was granted early release from prison after she and her one-time internet love interest, Nicholas Godejohn, killed Blanchard’s mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. It was revealed in court that Dee Dee — who was stabbed to death as she slept in their Springfield, Missouri, home — lived with Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (formerly [and still commonly] referred to as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy) and subjected Blanchard to a lifetime of unnecessary and invasive medical procedures for financial and opportunistic gain.
Blanchard served seven years of a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
The high-profile case became an Oxygen true crime special, Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill For, as featured in Snapped: Killer Couples.
Who is the unborn baby’s father, Ken Urker?
Blanchard and Ken Urker were former pen pals following Blanchard’s conviction, and the pair became engaged in 2019 while Blanchard was still behind bars, as previously reported by Oxygen.com. Their relationship didn’t work out, and they split in 2020 before Blanchard went on to marry Ryan Anderson, from whom she separated in March of this year.
Speculation that Blanchard and Urker rekindled their romance grew just days after Blanchard announced her and Anderson’s separation, especially when the now-expectant parents were spotted getting matching tattoos at a Louisiana tattoo parlor in April.
Many of Blanchard’s hundreds of thousands of IG followers had raised questions about Blanchard’s marital status with Anderson in response to Blanchard and Urker’s baby announcement. However, soon after, her account settings were seemingly changed so that some comments are no longer visible.

In the recent video, Blanchard talked about her “unconventional” relationship with Urker, claiming they both “came from broken homes” and, therefore, know they want to raise their child as a strong and united front.
“It doesn’t matter what we go through, him and I,” said Blanchard. “Whatever we face, we’ll face it together… we’re not breaking because we are a family now.”
Anderson has not publicly addressed his estranged wife’s news.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard on her late mother
Blanchard touched on her childhood in the post, but not before diving feet-first into her early pregnancy journey, citing her hankerings for orange juice and “an insatiable hunger to eat everything” as indicators that she could be expecting. After testing positive with a pregnancy test and consulting an O.B.G.Y.N., Blanchard said she was also experiencing “crazy mood swings” and “tiredness.”
“I know that there are gonna be people that feel like I’m not ready to be a mother, and I don’t know if anyone’s really ready to be a mother,” she continued in the YouTube video. “I feel a shift in myself. When I found out that I was pregnant, none of anything else mattered.”
Blanchard explained that the pregnancy has made her prioritize her and the baby’s health and her relationship with Urker over “drama” she continues to see on social media. She grew emotional when touching upon her past, saying she wants to protect and love the baby “and all of the things that I wish I could have had when I was little.”
“All the things I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” Blanchard tearfully said. “I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”
The baby is due in January 2025.
