Elderly Sheriff's Deputy Accused Of Raping A Woman While On Duty, In Uniform
Octogenarian Jerry Glover has been arrested for raping a woman — who he allegedly met while working as a court officer — in her home while he was on duty and in uniform.
An elderly Georgia sheriff’s deputy has been accused of raping a woman at her Rock Spring home while on duty and wearing his uniform.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday they had arrested former Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Glover after an investigation allegedly revealed he “had sex with a woman without her consent while on duty and in uniform.”
Glover’s former boss, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson, told local station WTVC that the octogenarian is accused of going to the home of the victim while he was on duty, forcing her to have sex with him and then returning to work.
Wilson told Law & Crime that Glover knew the alleged victim through his position as a deputy sheriff, where he had worked most recently as a court officer.
The woman reported the incident to the LaFayette Police Department several hours after the alleged attack.
Glover is now facing charges of rape, violation of oath of office and false imprisonment.
His exact age remains unclear. While the GBI has said Glover is 81 years old, Wilson has told multiple media outlets that the man is actually 80.
Oxygen.com reached out to Wilson to confirm details of the case, but did not receive an immediate response.
Wilson said Glover was placed on leave when the investigation into the allegations was launched and was fired from his post on Friday, before his Tuesday arrest.
Glover had a lengthy career in law enforcement prior to his firing, working for the Walker County Sheriff’s Office in the 1980s and early 1990s. He also worked for the Atlanta Police Department.
He had most recently worked as a court officer during a seven-year stint with the sheriff’s office.
“It’s certainly not the morals that we strive to achieve in this agency,” Wilson told Law & Crime of the allegations. “I’m very disappointed that he has committed an act that reflects on him, and it does reflect on the entire agency, and on that, I am very sorry.”
According to the GBI, the investigation remains “active and ongoing.” They asked that anyone with additional information about the case contact the agency at 706-624-1424.
