Man Allegedly Steals DJ Marshmello's $350K Monster Truck, Takes It On High-Speed Police Chase
Edward Cruz allegedly rode up to a dealership on a bicycle and made off the DJ and music producer's expensive ride.
A man allegedly stole DJ Marshmello’s monster truck, which he took for a dramatic high-speed joy ride and police chase around the Los Angeles suburbs.
The extra-large, custom-built Ford F-550 six-wheel vehicle was stolen from the service bay of a Ford dealership in Van Nuys on Wednesday evening, CBS Los Angeles reports.
A suspect rode up to the dealership on a bicycle and approached the monster truck owned by the DJ and music producer, whose legal name is Christopher Comstock. The suspect, identified as Edward Cruz, 27, allegedly tossed his bicycle into the bed of the $350,000 truck and then drove off, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Cruz then began "driving recklessly" and soon deputies and highway patrol began pursuing him, according to a California Highway Patrol press release obtained by Oxygen.com. As the truck entered a freeway, the situation escalated to a high-speed chase as Cruz allegedly hit speeds between 70 and 100 miles per hour. When Cruz exited the freeway, he ran several red lights before striking a light pole, according to the highway patrol.
The chase was televised on local media and Dave Sparks, the truck's designer, posted a clip of it onto his Instagram.
"When my homie/client @marshmellomusic @shalizi texts me late at night to tell me that his SMCO6x6 has been stolen and involved in a high-speed chase,” he wrote.
Cruz was arrested without incident following the collision. He has been charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle and felony reckless evading, according to the press release. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
Comstock is an electronic music producer and DJ known for wearing a marshmallow mask over his head.
