Parade Crash Suspect Allegedly Ran Over Mother Of His Child With SUV Weeks Earlier, Feels 'Demonized'
Darrell Brooks, who's accused of crashing his SUV into a holiday parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing six, was facing domestic violence-related charges at the time.
The convicted sex offender accused of plowing his SUV into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin last month allegedly tried to run over the mother of his children just weeks before the deadly incident.
An unnamed clerk who works at American Inn in Milwaukee told Fox News this week that Brooks' ex-girlfriend and mother of his child checked into the motel on Nov. 1 with a man.
He said by the next morning, an enraged Brooks banged on his ex’s door and berated her.
"I remember because he was so angry," the clerk told the news outlet.
Online records reveal that one of the pending cases against Brooks involves accusations that he ran over the mother of his child in a parking lot earlier in November after punching her. That allegedly happened shortly after Brooks’ outburst at the motel, at a nearby gas station parking lot.
The woman needed to be treated at a nearby hospital; she'd suffered wounds to her face and had tire tracks on her left leg, according to Fox News. Brooks was actually out on a $1,000 cash as a result of that incident at the time of the deadly parade crash in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha on Nov. 21, which took the lives of six people and wounded 48. The deceased victims included Virginia Sorenson, 79; Leanna Owen, 71; Tamara Durand, 52; Jane Kulich, 52, Jackson Sparks, 8, and Wilhelm Hospel, 81.
Brooks was also allegedly involved in a domestic disturbance directly before the parade incident.
This week, Brooks told Fox News that he felt "dehumanized” being jailed following crash.
"I just feel like I'm being monster – demonized," Brooks said from jail, in his first interview post-arrest.
He is no stranger to issues with the law.
Brooks pleaded no contest to felony strangulation and suffocation in 2010, according to online records. After he violated the terms of his probation in connection with that incident, he was sentenced to 11 months behind bars. He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer in 2011, which led to a 37-day jail sentence. The first mark on his criminal record is from 1999 with an arrest for battery, a charge he pleaded guilty to and for which he was sentenced to six months behind bars.
He is also a convicted sex offender who was found guilty in 2006 of felony statutory sexual seduction for impregnating a 15-year-old girl. There is a warrant out for Brooks’ arrest in Nevada for allegedly failing to appear at a 2016 court hearing in regards to an earlier failure to notify authorities about a move, NBC News has reported. Sex offenders are required to notify officials when they relocate.
