Atlanta Police Deny Twitter Claim That Active Serial Killer Is Behind Slayings Of 2 Women
Following the murders of Tori Lang and Katherine Janness, police in Atlanta deny that there is a serial killer at large.
Police in Atlanta are denying that there is an active serial killer on the loose after a social media post claiming a single murderer is mutilating several women around the city went viral.
A tweet has said that a serial killer is mutilating women “in twisted ways” and mentions a murder in Piedmont Park, another on Stone Mountain, and a third in Norcross. It has already been shared thousands of times.
But the post isn’t completely based on falsehoods as, two women have been murdered in Atlanta recently — one in Piedmont Park and a second on Stone Mountain.
Katherine Janness, 40, and her dog, Bowie, were found murdered at Piedmont Park last week. They were both stabbed to death, WSB-TV in Atlanta reported. Tori Lang, 18, was also found shot to death at Stone Mountain last week.
Gwinnett County police have stated that there is no connection between the two murders, and there has not been any murder reported in Norcross. The FBI has joined Atlanta police in the investigation of Janness, local outlet 11 Alive reports.
By the weekend, as rumors of an area serial killer spiraled, Atlanta Police released a statement.
“There have been many rumors and much speculation surrounding this case, both among members of the public as well as internally. Much of the information is inaccurate and some is completely false,” it reads. “Please rely on the information released through official channels and do not promote rumors and speculation on active investigations.”
Anyone with information on the murders, is urged to call APD Homicide at 404-546-4235 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS with any information.
