Pro Boxer Killed In Front Of His Three Kids, Girlfriend On Christmas Eve While On Way To Holiday Dinner
Danny Kelly Jr. was driving his family to a holiday dinner when he was shot to death on a busy roadway from a suspect in another vehicle.
A professional boxer was killed in front of his girlfriend and three children as they were driving to a holiday dinner on Christmas Eve in what authorities are investigating as a "possible road rage" case.
Danny Kelly Jr., 30, of Clinton, Maryland, and his family were en route to the gathering when the “suspect’s vehicle pulled up next to Kelly’s SUV and someone inside opened fire,” a press release from the Prince George’s County Police Department states.
It appears that Kelly was behind the wheel hen he was shot on St. Barnabas Road, which police describe as a “heavily travelled roadway.” When police arrived at the scene, “they discovered Kelly unresponsive in the driver’s seat of an SUV suffering from gunshot wounds.”
He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after.
No one else in the SUV was injured and police say they are “looking into whether this was possible road rage.”
Detectives are currently working to identify the suspect and the suspect vehicle. And they have turned to the public for help, asking anyone with any information about the fatal shooting to contact them.
“This is an absolutely heartbreaking loss for Mr. Kelly’s family and friends,” Acting Major David Blazer of the Major Crimes Division stated on Christmas. “He is not home with his loved ones today on Christmas who are now mourning his loss instead of celebrating the holiday.”
The shooting left Kelly’s three children, ages 4, 7, and 9, without a father, local outlet WJLA reports. During his boxing career, Kelly achieved nine knockouts. By Christmas Day, the boxing community was mourning his loss.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in Kelly’s shooting.
