Black Lives Matter

Several high profile police killings of Black people, including George Floyd, have inspired national movements promoting racial equality.

Following the killing of Trayvon Martin, George Hofstetter developed an app that would hold police accountable when they stopped a person of color.

Alicia Garza created the Black Lives Matter platform in 2013 with Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors.

Justin King, 28, was fatally shot by his neighbor, Eric Barber, on Nov. 3, 2021 in rural Missouri. King’s family are convinced his death was a pre-meditated murder.

Arbery's family asked the court not to show any leniency to the men who chased Ahmaud Arbery down and shot him.

But Willie Stokes, convicted in the murder of Leslie Campbell based solely on the perjured testimony, will learn later this month if prosecutors plan to retry his case. 

The Black man who put his body on the line to try and end segregation in 1892 only to see the Supreme Court uphold the "separate but equal" doctrine of the Jim Crow South had his conviction expunged.

Arianna Delane was asleep in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment when someone fired several shots — but her own mother had to take her to the hospital.

“His bright light was extinguished by the personnel within the juvenile detention center that took his life,” lawyer Andrew Stroth said of Cedric Lofton, who had plans to pursue a career in music.

In October, the board had unanimously recommended that Floyd become just the second person in Texas since 2010 to receive a posthumous pardon.
