Minnesota Mother Dead In Murder-Suicide At Hands Of Ex-Boyfriend She Accused Of Rape
Duo Por Lao, who Bao Yang called the police about multiple times, was arrested in late February for allegedly sending explicit photos of the mother to her former boyfriend.
A Minnesota mother of two died in a murder-suicide on Saturday, apparently at the hands of a former boyfriend accused of raping her and shaving her head after a 2019 breakup.
Duoa Por Lao, 39, began dating Bao Yang, 39, in 2018. She broke things off with him a year later, but in August 2019 he allegedly turned up at her home, according to a probable cause report obtained by KSTP-TV. When Yang answered the door, Lao allegedly forced his way into the house, smashed her cellphone, threw her on a couch, and raped her.
Lao allegedly shaved Yang’s head following the assault, telling her that he’d seen a YouTube video of a man shaving off his girlfriend’s hair after she cheated on him, according to the report.
Lao had previously been found guilty of raping a minor in 2003, according to online court records. In that incident, he provided the teenager with alcohol, manipulated her, and physically forced her into having sex with him, according to Minnesota’s sex offender registry.
Yang had initially pressed charges against Lao but later changed her mind, as “she believed pursuing the case would make things worse for her,” according to court documents obtained by KSTP.
After that, Lao allegedly began to harass Yang. Police were called to Yang’s house 15 times over the past eight months, with many of the incidents involving Lao, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. When Lao allegedly began sending explicit photos of Yang to her ex-boyfriend last month, she filed charges against him — again.
On Feb. 24, Lao was arrested on charges related to the explicit photos. He was released on a $10,000 bond on March 1, according to a receipt obtained by Oxygen.com from the Ramsey County District Court.
On Saturday morning, he and Yang were both found with gunshot wounds outside Yang’s house.
Lao was pronounced dead at the scene, while Yang died at the hospital, according to a news release by the St. Paul Police Department. A shotgun and a handgun were recovered from the scene.
Yang’s 21-year-old daughter, Vichai Vang, has created a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs. It had raised over $23,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
Yang was a registered nurse and is remembered as a cheerful, caring mother, according to the GoFundMe page. She is survived by Vang and Vang’s 11-year-old brother.
