Former ‘Are You The One?’ Contestant Is Charged With Raping A 16-Year-Old Girl In Indiana
Connor N. Smith has been charged with rape, criminal confinement, sexual battery and confinement.
A former contestant on the MTV reality show “Are You The One?” has been accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl after meeting the teen online.
Connor N. Smith, 31, is now facing charges of rape, criminal confinement, sexual battery and confinement, according to online court records.
The teen initially told authorities she'd been talking to a man online about buying a cat, only for him to show up at a relative's home in Hobart, Indiana and abduct her, pulling her out of a window before driving to a motel and sexually assaulting her. She later told investigators that had agreed to sneak out to see the man, who she knew as “Champ,” on July 16, according to court documents obtained by Oxygen.com.
The teen told authorities that Smith—a resident of Orland Park, Illinois—forced her to perform a sex act on him as soon as she got into his pickup truck and threatened her by saying "If you don't cooperate ..." while lighting a cigarette lighter.
According to her account, the pair drove to a local motel and Smith locked her inside the vehicle as he went into the lobby to check in. She told investigators she could hear the locks popping as she waited, causing her to believe that he had been repeatedly pressing the lock button on his key fob while he was inside the building. She said the backseat of the vehicle was cluttered with “knives, alcohol and shopping bags.”
The teenager told investigators that she had tried to convince Smith to let her go once they got inside the room, but she said he punched her in the face, hit her and forced her to undress, according to the court documents.
She said he then forced her into the bathroom where the assault continued, with him forcing her to perform oral sex again, authorities allege.
She told authorities that Smith slapped her and hit her, telling her he would “burn her” and “make her disappear” if she didn’t cooperate, according to the report.
Smith is accused of dragging the teen back to the bed, where he continued the attack, according to the documents. She told investigators that Smith strangled her and at one point she passed out. When she regained consciousness, he was slapping her, authorities said.
After the attack, she said Smith drove her back to her relative’s home and told her he’d be back to pick her up the next day at the same time; however, some of the girl’s relatives had been outside the home looking for her and started to chase the truck, according to the court documents.
Her relatives were able to capture a license plate number that authorities said was later linked to Smith. DNA from a sexual assault kit was also determined to be a likely match to Smith, authorities said.
Smith was arrested Thursday in Oak Lawn, Illinois and is currently being held at the Cook County Jail pending extradition to Lake County, Indiana, where investigators say the crime occurred.
Before his arrest, Smith appeared on the third season of the MTV reality series “Are You the One?” in 2015, according to People.
Contestants on the show tried for find their “perfect match” while competing for $1 million.
