Partial Remains Of Missing California Teen Alexis Gabe Identified Via Dental Records

Human remains discovered last week were positively identified as belonging to Alexis Gabe, the California woman who mysteriously vanished several months ago.

The partial remains of Alexis Gabe, 24, who disappeared in January, were discovered by investigators on Friday, roughly 40 miles east of Sacramento, according to NBC News. Gabe, who lived in Oakley, California at the time of her disappearance, was last seen alive on Jan. 26 at her boyfriend’s home in the neighboring city of Antioch. Her car was later found abandoned, the keys still in the ignition.

On Nov. 4, authorities responded to a remote area of Plymouth, California after a nearby resident discovered “something suspicious,” which authorities suspected were human remains.

"Due to the time of day and diminishing daylight, it was determined it would be best to keep watch over the area and initiate a more thorough investigation this morning," City of Oakley said in a press release issued Friday.

Gabe’s partial remains were positively identified by a forensic odontologist, Fox affiliate KTVU reported. Authorities didn’t specify the state or condition of the remains, but suggested that she had been dismembered.

"The area where Alexis’ remains were found has been searched further and no other remains have been located,” officials added. “Due to the nature of the condition of Alexis’ remains, and the lack of her full body, we do believe the remainder of her remains are scattered in various areas. Due to the condition of Alexis’ remains we realize there may never be a full recovery of her."

Gabe’s suspected killer, her estranged former boyfriend, Marshall Curtis Jones, had moved in to a family member's Seattle home shortly after her disappearance. He was later shot and killed in June by law enforcement, who alleged that he charged at them with a knife.

Officials say Jones was "the last person [Gabe] saw before her disappearance.” A warrant for Jones’ arrest, charging him with Gabe’s slaying, had been issued hours before his death. The Seattle Police Department, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service had been working jointly to capture the accused man.

Authorities had previously investigated the possibility that a number of notes scrawled by Jones before he died, including detailed directions, could possibly lead to the location where he allegedly disposed of Gabe’s body. The notes were found crumpled and in the garbage at Jones' sister's home.

Police now suspect that Gabe was likely murdered by Jones in his Antioch home shortly after she went missing.

“We know that Marshall Jones wrote these directions to Pioneer and believe he used them to dispose of Alexis’ body near where the directions end,” police stated at the time.

A $100,000 reward had previously been offered for any information leading to the location of Gabe’s body. 

“We didn't want him dead,” Gabe's father, Gwyn Gabe, said, according to ABC 7, referring to Jones’ death at the time of his police-involved death. “We wanted him arrested to pay for his sins.”

Gabe’s family had previously described Jones as Gabe’s “first love.”

“He became part of our family,” he said. “We had no idea he was capable of doing something like this to her.”

Officials said a press conference would be held to provide further updates this week.
