‘I Won’t Let You Demons Take My Soul Away’: Teen Accused Of Killing Tristyn Bailey Makes Odd Court Appearance
“Why am I here?” a seemingly confused Aiden Fucci asks while appearing virtually in court from the Duval County jail.
The Florida teenager accused of viciously stabbing fellow schoolmate Tristyn Bailey to death appeared confused during a court appearance Wednesday and repeatedly mumbled about “demons.”
“I won’t let you demons take my soul,” 14-year-old Aiden Fucci can be heard mumbling according to footage obtained by local station WJXT. “You demons want to take my soul away.”
Fucci looked confused as he held a phone to his ear and he looked around the small room, where he was appearing virtually from the Duval County Jail, and rocked back and forth in his chair.
“Why am I here?” he asked at one point, before referencing his parents.
“I just want to talk to my mom and dad,” he said. “What’s going on?”
His camera then abruptly cut off. A spokesperson from Judge Lee Smith’s office told WTLV-WJXX that the court had experienced “technical difficulties.”
Fucci’s preliminary hearing was rescheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 28.
Before the abrupt end to the unusual hearing, Fucci’s lawyer waived his right to a speedy trial.
Forensic psychologist, Justin D’Arienzo, reviewed the footage for WJXT said it was “hard to tell” if Fucci was faking the odd behavior or not.
“From my perspective, it seemed genuine, given the pattern of behavior today and from what else we know,” he said.
Fucci’s girlfriend allegedly told investigators that he heard voices in his head that told him to kill people. He also had a notebook filled with satanic drawings, according to court records obtained by the outlet.
The bizarre court appearance comes just one week after the State Attorney’s Office 7th Circuit released a series of videos from the morning investigators believe Bailey, 13, was stabbed 114 times, along with SnapChat videos taken by Fucci as he sat in the back of a patrol car.
The surveillance images, obtained by Oxygen.com, show what appears to be Bailey and a boy authorities believe is Fucci walking down the sidewalk together in the early morning hours of May 9 toward a wooded area where Bailey’s body would later be discovered. More than an hour later, the boy can be seen returning alone.
Authorities also released SnapChat videos showing Fucci and a friend sitting in the back of a patrol car after Bailey was reported missing.
“Having fun in a f---ing cop car,” Fucci said in one video obtained by Oxygen.com.
He then turns to the camera and references Bailey, saying “What up guys? Tristyn if you (expletive) walk out the damn…” before the clip ends.
Fucci’s mother, Crystal Smith, also had a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday but did not appear in court herself, according to local station WJAX-TV. She is facing charges of tampering with evidence after investigators allege that she helped wash blood from her son’s jeans after Bailey's killing.
Her next hearing was also scheduled for Oct. 28. She is currently out on bond.
