Actor Kaalan Walker Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Three Minors, Four Women
Kaalan Walker, who appeared in the movies "SuperFly" and "Kings," was found guilty of sexually assaulting four women and three girls on Monday. Prosecutors said he approached his victims via social media and offered them the possibility of work.
Actor Kaalan Walker, 27, was found guilty on Monday of sexually assaulting multiple underage girls and women dating back to 2013.
The jury found the “SuperFly” actor guilty on three counts of forcible rape, one count of assault to commit oral copulation, two counts of statutory rape and two counts of rape by intoxication, USA Today reported. His convictions are related to seven victims: three minors and four adult women.
Walker was acquitted of one count of digital penetration and two counts of forcible rape brought on behalf of three other alleged victims, Los Angeles NBC affiliate KNBC reported.
According to KNBC, Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi told the Van Nuys, California jury that the case involved women who did not know one another.
“The single thing that unites all of these women is the defendant Kaalan Walker,” she said in court, per KNBC.
“You’re going to see a dark side of him,” she continued. "When they said 'Stop,' he didn't care.”
Walker’s lawyer, Andrew Flier said his client had been “portrayed as a monster.”
"The pattern of Mr. Walker is to make false promises and they bought it," Flier said in court, KNBC reported. "Each one of these women voluntarily made their own decisions."
"He didn't force them," Flier added. "It's payback to Mr. Walker and we're not going to let that happen.''
Flier told USA Today in a statement on Tuesday that Walker "maintains his innocence" and that he "did not receive a fair trial, as many important issues were excluded by the Court."
Walker was arrested on Sept. 11, 2018 for a series of sexual assaults. According to police, “aspiring models” had been contacted by Walker via social media asking them about doing professional work with him. Each of the victims reported that Walker had subsequently sexually assaulted them, according to LAPD at the time.
Walker was arraigned on nine felony sexual assault charges in October 2018, and bond was set at over a $1 million bail. He was subsequently released on bond, but was taken into custody on Monday after the verdict, according to KNBC. He faces a potential life sentence.
Walker is scheduled to appear in court on May 27 for a trial on aggravating factors in the cases, reported by USA Today.
