Grandfather Punches Man After Allegedly Catching Him Molesting His 5-Year-Old Granddaughter
The child’s grandfather discovered his daughter’s fiancé, identified as Aaron Michael Cunagin, with his pants down in a bedroom with the 5-year-old, who was also partially naked, police said.
A Pennsylvania grandfather punched his 5-year-old granddaughter’s alleged attacker after finding the man molesting the young girl.
Aaron Michael Cunagin, 22, is now facing charges of rape of a child, indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and indecent exposure, according to a statement from Middletown Borough Police.
The child’s grandfather allegedly found Cunagin—the reported fiancé of his daughter—alone with the partially nude 5-year-old in the bedroom of an apartment with his pants down, according to the Centre Daily Times.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the girl’s grandfather walked by the bedroom, which served as a playroom, and saw the young girl sitting on Cunagin’s lap, according to an affidavit obtained by the paper and Penn Live. The grandfather thought it “was weird, but did not think anything else.”
A few minutes later he started to worry when he thought it was too quiet in the bedroom and went back to check on his granddaughter. When he looked into the bedroom, he told police he saw Cunagin, who was in a corner between a crib and bed, with his pants down and genitals exposed, according to the affidavit. The young girl was naked from the waist down.
The girl’s grandpa rushed in and punched Cunagin, according to police.
The noise woke up another woman in the apartment. When the woman confronted Cunagin, he allegedly apologized and told her that he had “blacked out,” authorities said.
Once at the police station, Cunagin first told detectives that his pants had accidentally been pulled down when he stood up. He later allegedly admitted to pulling them down himself, according to the court records.
Cunagin allegedly told police after pulling his pants down he felt “numb” and had been trying to determine what to do when the grandfather intervened.
“It just went through my head. I was back and forth with myself,” he said, according to the affidavit. “I just felt numb. I sat there with it in my hand.”
He allegedly added that he was “fighting himself whether or not to have sex with the victim,” as held his genitalia, according to the criminal complaint.
The young girl told police there had been five previous incidents, although Cunagin denied that.
He is currently being held at the Dauphin County Correctional Facility on a $150,000 bond, police said.
