Rapper Rich The Kid Robbed Outside West Hollywood Music Studio With Usher Inside
Witnesses say that one of the suspects opened fire while fleeing the scene outside Westlake Recording Studio, but Rich The Kid was not hit.
Three unknown suspects allegedly attacked and robbed rapper Rich the Kid on Tuesday afternoon while he and his crew were standing outside of a recording studio in West Hollywood, California where Usher was inside recording.
The 26-year-old rapper, born Dimitri Roger, along with his entourage, were outside of the Westlake Recording Studio when they became the victims of an attack, Variety reports. The assailants got away with cash and jewelry, and witnesses say that one of the suspects opened fire as he fled the scene, letting off as many as 10 shots aimed behind him, TMZ reports. At least one of the rapper’s bodyguards was beaten with a gun, according to the outlet.
Usher was present at the same studio at the time of the alleged crime, but he was inside the building working on his own music and was not harmed, TMZ reports.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office in West Hollywood confirmed in a press release Tuesday that a shooting occurred on the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood at approximately 3:13 p.m., but did not mention the rapper or any other alleged victim by name. When deputies responded to the scene, they found “three male black assault victims” who said that “three male black suspects” robbed them in an alleyway behind a place of business, demanding money and jewelry before assaulting them, according to the release. The victims said that the three suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle heading westbound, with one of the suspects opening fire as they drove away, the release states.
The three victims were treated at the scene for minor injuries that did not require a hospital visit, according to officials. A representative for Rich the Kid has since confirmed to USA Today that “Rich is OK” following the incident.
No arrests have been made thus far. The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station detectives are currently handling the ongoing investigation.
Rich the Kid has not yet addressed the events of Tuesday afternoon on social media. Just hours before the robbery, he posted a photo of himself posing with stacks of cash on Instagram and, at present time, it is still his most recent update.
Tuesday’s robbery and assault marks the second time in under a year that Rich the Kid has been a victim of a violent crime. The young rapper was beaten and robbed during a home invasion at his girlfriend Tori Brixx’s house in June. He and Brixx were both hospitalized for injuries they sustained during the attack, and no arrests were ever made in relation to the incident.
