Man Who Murdered Wife On Alaskan Cruise 'Snapped' After She Allegedly Asked For Divorce
“He had been acting terrible all night."
More details are emerging in the murder of a Utah woman who was allegedly killed by her husband aboard a Princess Cruises ship. The couple, Kristy and Kenneth Manzanares, both 39, were celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary. Along with them on their trip, were their three daughters, aged 13 to 22, and other family members.
A family source told PEOPLE that on the night of the killing, Kenneth was belligerent at dinner.
“He had been acting terrible all night,” the source said. The source claimed that at some point that night evening, Kristy asked for a divorce and that’s what caused Kenneth to “snap.”
The marital tension was reportedly something new.
“If they were having [marital issues] they never showed any of that to anyone else,” the source told PEOPLE.
Kristy’s family is now grieving the mom of three.
“We are devastated over the loss of Kristy. She is the light of our lives,” Kristy’s family said in a statement.
Passenger Natalie Beckstrom recalled the chaos of the murder to the St. George News. She said that she saw the couple’s 13-year-old daughter “standing there wrapped in a blanket, just sobbing.”
“And, right then, a man came out from the hallway where the room is that they were staying in. He had on jeans and a white tank top and he was covered in blood from like the waist down, and he said to the woman holding the little girl, ‘It doesn’t look good.’ And so, at that point, the 13-year-old just lost it – she just started sobbing, ‘I want my mommy. I want my mommy,’” Beckman said.
