Abraham Quintanilla and Chris Pérez have battled over the Tejano star's legacy for years.

In the new Netflix series based on the life of late Mexican-American icon Selena, the teenage singer has a meaningful encounter with the woman first dubbed “queen of Tejano music."

"I will forever respect the band and the people involved in it," Chris Pérez wrote in an Instagram message.

The singer was just crossing over into English-language music with her 1995 platinum album when she was gunned down at the age of 23 by the founder of her fan club.
