Defense attorneys argued the trial should be moved outside of Nelson County because of “unabated media sensationalism” surrounding the murder case.

As Brooks Houck pleaded not guilty to Rogers' murder, prosecutor Shane Young told the judge that he's waiting for test results on a gun that he believes was used to kill Rogers' dad, Tommy Ballard.

Brooks Houck lived with Crystal Rogers and their child at the time of her 2015 disappearance.

The mother of five vanished from Bardstown, Kentucky over the July 4th weekend in 2015 and Joseph L. Lawson has just been charged with conspiracy in her presumed death.

The inmate claims Ellis was shot because "he was close to an investigation of a ring of storage shed burglaries and business burglaries."

Sherry Ballard says they're waiting on prosecutors to get "on board" a year after investigators found multiple items of interest in a development where prime suspect Brooks Houck built several homes. 

"I pray the items of interest will be connected to my daughter so we can bring her home to rest in peace beside her daddy," Sherry Ballard, mother of Crystal Rogers, told Oxygen.com.

Crystal Rogers, a Kentucky mother of five, has been missing since July 2015.

"We know there are individuals in the community who have information on Crystal's disappearance. Now is the time to come forward," the FBI said as their search of a subdivision in Bardstown, Kentucky continues.

FBI agents are focusing on a home in a Bardstown, Kentucky subdivision built by Crystal Rogers' boyfriend Brooks Houck, the only person identified as a suspect in the case.
