Episode 3: Family Cook Off/Selling Candy

I kept the kids’ charity candy drive secret from Deion because I knew he would impose
all his thoughts and personal ideals on the kids. And I know he has a takeover spirit,
and he would exercise that freedom and completely take it over. Which he did. I was
Deion is a competitor, and that means he’ll do anything to win. If it includes cheating,
he’ll cheat. Which is what everyone saw when we did the race. He cheated. And the
cook-off. He cheated.
It’s really important for the kids to be competitive simply because I think it gives
them the edge. It gives them the edge to do better, and to be better, and when there’s
no one else to compete against, they’ll always try to compete against themselves,
which means always trying to improve their personal best. So, I think it’s that driving
force that just keeps someone going. It’s very important to me that they have it.
